Project Date: July 2014
Client: Kijinosato
These windows sit above the main entrance to a building providing supported accommodation for vulnerable teenagers and young adults. This Japanese social welfare project gives support to people who have found themselves outside of the family unit and are in need of guidance and support in setting up a new life for themselves.
Through discussions with the client some key themes emerged relating to the personal development of the service users. Metaphors used to describe the transition from the unit, back into society, repeatedly involved the notion of flight and I used this as a starting point for the design.
